Okay, so now I get to talk about me. Have I mentioned I don’t usually talk about myself and it’s a bit out of my comfort zone so bear with me here. I have loved animals since the day I was born. Luckily for me, my mom also loved animals so we always had critters. Mostly of the fuzzy variety.
I have also always been fascinated, some might even say obsessed, with horses. So finally after much begging at the age of four my mom let me start taking riding lessons, under the mistaken impression that it was a phase and would pass. Well, I’m not going to tell you exactly how many years, but all these years later I’m still maybe slightly obsessed with horses. Without getting into details, my journey with horses eventually led to me starting and successfully running a warmblood breeding farm called Prairie Thunder Ranch. If you are curious about my horses you can check them out at Prairie Thunder Ranch.
So I started doing photography to market my horses and because I absolutely love taking pictures of animals and the beautiful scenery in the amazing area I live, western South Dakota and the Black Hills. Of course when my kids arrived I also felt the need to have more than a few photos of them. So I have years and years of practice but it’s only recently that I decided to turn this passion into a business.
I love to capture the character of animals and people as they do what is natural for them and interact with each other. I love photographing in natural settings and also really enjoy setting up a fun set in my studio and seeing what the animals and, sometimes, kids do. They rarely do what I expect, but they always do something fun and cute. I’m happy to take whatever they are wlling to give and still keep everything fun and relaxed.
